Call for Participants – Empowering Health Literacy in Veterans and Veterans’ families

The Gallipoli Medical research has launched their latest study to understand the gaps in health literacy in Queensland Veterans and Veterans’ families.

We are seeking veterans and their family members to complete an online survey about how you find, understand and use health information, and how you manage your health and interact with doctors and other healthcare workers. The survey will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete.

Feel the Magic Day Camp

On Saturday 28th October, Brisbane Legacy ran its first Feel the Magic Day Camp.

Feel the Magic is an Australian charity providing early intervention grief education programs for kids aged 7 to 18, who are experiencing pain and isolation due to the death of a parent, guardian, or sibling. Their aim is to create a community where grieving kids and their families feel supported, empowered, and can begin to move forward with their lives.

At Feel the Magic, there is a range of face to face and virtual camps, so they can help grieving kids heal – no matter where they are.

For Brisbane Legacy, we chose to start the journey with a Day Camp where attendees could:

  • Learn about the psychology behind childhood grief
  • Help to develop a stronger family unit so you can move forward together
  • Connect with other families grieving the loss of a loved one
  • Take some time for self-care

There were also some additional activities such as a cultural weaving workshop, a Fun Eco Walk and of course food and yummy goodies.

Held at the Eco Centre of Griffith University and co-funded by the RSL our families had a really fantastic day.

Have a look at the video below to gain an insight into the activities undertaken.
