Churchill Fellowship Report

The Legacy Club of Brisbane’s CEO was selected to participate in the Winston Churchill Trust’s Paul Tys Fellowship to investigate a new model of service for families of veterans. His project was defined as:

To investigate international best practice in providing holistic support to Defence families supporting a veteran with physical and psychological injuries as a result of their Defence service. Evaluate international programs that support Defence families as they navigate complex social and medical support systems particularly associated with veterans that leave the service ‘unwillingly’ due to their conditions. The project involves visiting countries where there are established For Purpose agencies engaged in veteran and family support after the veteran has left their military service environment.

Brendan completed his tour of overseas facilities in July this year and has now submitted his report to the Trustees. He provided a copy of his report to at the recent National ESO Forum.

Spring Torch 2023

Since the last edition of the Torch Magazine, we have participated in the very successful Legacy Centenary Torch Relay. Many of you will have seen footage and photos of our Joint Patrons, Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland Dr Jeanette Young and Professor Graham Nimmo, participating in the Torch Relay and hosting a morning tea at Government House. We are most grateful for the wonderful support they continue to give to Legacy.

New Blue Card Applications

A new version, Version 9, of the Blue Card application/renewal form for Legatees and Volunteers has been introduced for the period of 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024.

Please dispose of any old forms, as they will no longer be valid for this financial year and Blue Card will not accept them.

Note that this  form will be returned to Leanne Drake, who is acting up in the role until Adele Elze commences on 17 July 2023.

You can find a copy of the form in the Forms and Templates page of the Legatee Guide here.

Autumn Torch 2023

Greetings. We have a busy year ahead of us culminating in the celebration of the Centenary of Legacy in Melbourne in October. The Legacy year commenced with the Kid’s Summer Camp held on the Sunshine Coast hinterland in January. Some thirty-five children aged eight to eighteen supported by seven of our Youth Leaders, Legatees, staff and ADF personnel enjoyed five days of challenging activities, fun and frolics. Despite a minor COVID appearance and a gastric bug that affected several of the campers, all went well due to the outstanding contributions of all the kids and their leaders.

Grevillea “LegacyFlame*”

Further to the successful National Launch of the Grevillea “LegacyFlame*” in WA recently, please find an interview by ABC Sydney’s Indira Naidoo with Friend of Hobart Legacy (FOHL) Suzanne Curry on our Centenary Flower Project on ANZAC Day.

Suzanne, together with L/Paul Crew and the Hobart Centenary Committee have been nursing and promoting the Centenary Flower on behalf of Legacy Australia and all Clubs not just our Centenary year but for the next 20 years with AU$0.80 coming back to Clubs in each State for the next 20 years.  The interview covers background, design, purpose, development planting and care, all in 12.5 minutes.

Please distribute the interview to all your Legatees, Widows and supporters. The success for Legacy will be our “personal” form of direct marketing, making sure that your local nursery orders the stock.  Pricing for the smaller plants will vary by State but at $17-$19 ea. they would make a great Centenary present for each one of your Widows.

* Note the Spelling “LegacyFlame” there are many flowers with registered “legacy” and/or “flame” in their names.  Registration for 20 years will retain the plant breeders rights and our $0.80 commission.

Legacy Centenary Fire Pits

Port Macquarie Hastings Legacy Club hope that your Club’s plans for the Centenary are coming along well.

We have decided to commemorate the occasion with a “Centenary Fire Pit”.  So for those out there who do a bit of camping or just enjoy an open fire why not invest in one?

The National Marketing Committee has approved promoting the sale of custom made Fire Pits to all Legacy Clubs.  Our Fire Pits are $300.00 each including delivery (in a flat pack).
